Five Favorites

Linking up with darling Hallie at Moxie Wife for this week's Five Favorites.

This show has been my naptime jam recently.  We haven't had cable in years, and the only thing I miss with any frequency is the Food Network.  I recently discovered that Amazon has a bunch of FN shows available to watch instantly.  Oh how I love pretending I know better than the Chopped chefs what to do with those mystery ingredients!  It's about as close as my non-crafty self comes to a creative outlet.

2.  Amazon Prime
Speaking of streaming tv... We have Amazon Prime mostly because I cannot be relied upon to order things in a timely fashion and therefore require free two day shipping, but the ability to stream shows and movies via the DVD player is a nice perk.  If don't have it yet, give Amazon Prime a try via this link: Join Amazon Prime - Watch Over 40,000 Movies .

3.  My VitaMix
Oh, boy.  Be prepared to read about this thing every week, because it is my favoritest of favorite things ever ever.  I'm in love with this blender.  The last three days, my toddler has requested and joyfully gulped down a smoothie made primarily of frozen green beans (kids...they are weird).  Every morning I make myself a coffee concoction with chia seeds (thanks to Grace for that recommendation!) that tastes like a chocolate milkshake but has no sugar and keeps me full until lunch.  Magical.

This book.  Y'all.  So funny. I've loved Julia Reed's stuff in Garden & Gun, but I hadn't read any of her books before this one.  Two pages into the introduction, I had to stop reading so I could go add all of her work to my wishlist.  Each essay contains absolute gems of inspiration on food, drink, and hospitality, and the whole thing is uproariously funny, to boot.

It's a little cruel to include this one, since their season is officially over, but these peaches--driven up to Nashville from Georgia's Pearson Farm--are simply amazing.  This year I canned peach butter and froze slices in syrup (and, of course, ate a boatload fresh).  Locals, be sure to follow them on Facebook or Twitter so you know when they'll be back up here next year.

  2. I love Chopped! And I love that it's always available on hulu or amazon prime or whatever I happen to be looking at - definitely a worthwhile time killer :)
